Cotswolds

This week I was staying with family friends both in Gloucestershire and Cambridge. It was great to get out of busy London for a bit and see the English countryside. I travelled into a town called Cirencester where I went to the Corinium Museum - there was a lot to see there because it covered the history of the Cotswolds from the Iron Age to the 19th century.

Some of the exhibition reminded me from when I did Latin at school eg. they had reconstructions of the interior of a Roman house and a Roman garden.

They also had some large mosaics on the wall and floor which had been pieced together. Some of the pieces were missing but they were cool. One in particular was the Orpheus mosaic (below) which depicts a Greek myth about Orpheus charming animals with his music - he was able to tame wild beasts instantly with his lyre.

Also in Cirencester I did a Hare Trail 'The Cirencester Hare Festival Way' which is a tour of colourful Hare sculptures commissioned by various artists (example of one below).

I also explored other areas of the Cotswolds having lunch in Bourton-on-the-Water with a friend James, and checking out The Model Village which is a small scale replica of the town.

There was also a Miniature World, a room full of tiny miniature scenes such as this one:

My friend and I also checked out the Motoring Museum which has a display of over 50 vintage vehicles (cars, motorcycles and caravans) but also interesting signs and number plates.
The Museum is also home to the TV car Brum and the children's show was filmed here.

My friend James drove me around the countryside so I got to pass though some quaint towns like Burford, Bibery and Barnsley.
Bibery (below) is home to the famous street Arlington Row.

The picture of the map below shows Cirencester and the surrounding towns such as Burford and Bourton on the Water.
